Worldwide leader in technology seeks an experienced Unix/AIX Systems Administrator to join there growing team. Initially a 12+ month contract to join this global team based in North West Sydney with view to extend.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the deployment of Unix Servers. Servers are built on various different hardware platforms and at different data centre locations. This work will be actioned underproject conditions in the majority of occasions.

You will be involved in the following:

  • Plan upgrades and other changes to the UNIX environment
  • Actively and pre-emtively determine possible failure faults and causes
  • Provide Team Leaders/managers with input re projects/direction when required
  • Manage and resolve problems identified by users or monitoring software
  • Work with change and problem management tools
  • Provide technical assistance to the other members of the System Administration team and Share knowledge/experiences
  • Hardware fault detection and correction - vendor liaising
  • Liaise with customer accounts as required
Required Skills:
  • Strong AIX 4.3.x & 5. x 6.x System administration experience
  • Strong skill in Virtualization products
  • Strong problem determination skills
  • Able to perform disk management functions such as extending logical volumes, creating file systems, mirroring disks
  • Understanding and ability to manually rebuild a Kernel
  • Proficient in TCP/IP
  • Strong understanding of P4/P5/P6/P7 pSeries hardware architectures
  • Very comfortable with problem and change management practices
  • Knowledge of IBM and non IBM disk subsystems and related device drivers
  • Identify areas of opportunity where services can be improved to the customer or delivery costs can be reduced.
