Network Engineer

Summary

As the Network Engineer you will provide senior-level technical support, administration, security, troubleshooting and documentation for the Sun Solaris operating environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Sun Solaris, provide enhanced performance tuning, troubleshooting and analysis, and work closely with IT development staff and business areas to provide full-service IT functions. Key areas of expertise include Windows Servers, security, server monitoring, and network infrastructure. In this role you will also install/replace/upgrade hardware, operating system and firmware as necessary, as well as work with users to troubleshoot and solve operational issues. This is a 12 month + contract opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate planned and unplanned outages and potential recovery efforts in the event of system failure.
  • Maintain overall health and availability of systems.
  • Work closely and provide support to Oracle DBA team and other application support teams as needed.
  • Monitor system logs and activity on all Servers.
  • Collaborate with storage team to ensure proper availability and configuration of volumes.
  • Experience with Symantec NetBackup configuration and troubleshooting is desirable
  • Primary responsibility will be performing daily support of the Windows Server environment.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate with internal & external business partners.
  • Offer exceptional customer service to internal/external customers by being highly communicative and responsive to their requests for assistance
  • Work with a variety of business areas to maintain and support Microsoft Windows Servers running 2003 and 2008
  • Support and troubleshoot Windows server applications developed in-house and externally.
  • Provide on-site and remote support to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic problems related to hardware and software availability, security, performance, connectivity, and overall functionality
  • Server Engineer will work with the Development staff to implement changes to applications and troubleshoot application problems.
  • Maintain documentation of the server and application environments as they evolve

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience Sun Solaris
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • Prefer MCSE 2003 or 2008 certification
  • Proficient in Windows Operating systems and related features
  • Proficient in the Use and Configuration of IIS and web Apps
  • Proficient in the installation and use of Microsoft products
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, MSI, SQL Server, and Scripting languages
  • Server Engineer will have a minimum of three years of experience in a medium to large Windows environment
  • Application debugging skills to assist developers who have no QC or production access and who are dependent upon CTS to assist when problems arise.
  • Excellent understanding of formal Change Management methodologies
  • High levels of interpersonal communications and organization skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing environments
  • Desire to grow both personally and professionally
