Key responsibilities:

  • Create design solutions that service key business drivers. Test these solutions with users Interpret requirements to create affective user interface screens
  • Lead end-user research and customer needs analysis
  • Collaborate with business peers to develop innovative solutions
  • Develop process flows, wireframes, and mockups to effectively conceptualise and communicate high-level design strategies and detailed interaction behaviors
  • Design innovative, conceptual prototypes that translate product requirements into screen flows and user interactions
  • Actively participate in requirements definition sessions, influencing business requirements and championing user needs
  • Research and analyse user characteristics and needs through such techniques as user profiling, competitive analysis, contextual inquiries, and task analysis
  • Participate in the effort to prepare for, facilitate, and analyse the results of usability tests and focus groups
  • Develop design artifacts (as appropriate) for a project throughout the product's life cycle, such as strategy documents, wireframes, prototypes, specifications, flow diagrams, and usability reports
  • Communicate design to all levels of the organisation by facilitating design sessions, walkthroughs, and artifact reviews

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, or related discipline
  • Strong experience in Interaction Design, Usability Engineering, Information Architecture, or User-Interface (UI) Design of Web-based applications
  • Strong experience in designing web-based products
  • Excellent teamwork skills, plus the flexibility to jump in where needed
  • Understands web accessibility as defined by Section 508 and WAI guidelines
  • Experience with simple HTML/CSS for rapid prototyping or with design tools such as Axure or Dreamweaver to produce such prototypes
  • Experience with the Rational Unified Process (RUI)
  • Experience with financial, customer care, workflow, or CRM products
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
  • Must have practical knowledge of user-centered design principles and processes and the ability to apply these principles in a real-world environment
  • Ability to garner respect from all customers, internal and external
  • Gauge the usability of new and existing products, and making constructive suggestions for change
  • Build strong, credible relationships within project groups
  • Knowledge of web-based products and an interest in researching the emerging capabilities of this medium
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
