Wells IT Technical Engineer

The purpose of the TLS Wells IT Technical engineer is to build, configure and support a standardized Drilling Rig IT solution to enable Real Time Wells data to be brought to a central location enabling new developments Remote Control Drilling and Drilling Automation in a Process Control (PCD) environment.

This position is primarily an office based position located at my client's offices in Assen however some travel to my client's fixed and mobile installations will be expected for the purpose of project, maintenance and fault finding activities.

Candidate will require at least 5 years experience in a wide range of computing, data and telecommunications equipment. Good working knowledge of LAN/WAN data networks and associated cabling infrastructures and specifications also required. Applicants should be highly motivated, flexible and able to respond to short notice requests to travel. Also essential is good communication skills with proven ability to work within a team environment and ability to work unsupervised within different offshore/onshore environments that can also supervise 3rd Party vendors and support engineers carrying out platform-specific tasks.

Technical awareness:

  • VMware - deployment experience
  • Windows Active Directory
  • Windows Server - deployment experience
  • Understanding of Cisco Switching and VLANs
  • Windows Client OS machines - deployment experience

Experienced in Rig site (on and offshore) deployments of Server and PC systems Hardware awareness:

  • HP Servers
  • Cisco Router and switch
  • Cisco ISR experience - Desirable
  • Firewall build and deployment experience
  • Fortinet experience - Desirable Business awareness (Desirable):
  • Experience in any Real Time data systems
  • Experience in a Process control environment
  • Any experience in mapping of data from WITS/OPC systems
  • Experience in the Rig/Drilling business
  • Additional Understanding/Experience
  • Ideally you should have full offshore certification
  • Highly motivated
  • Mobility - travel to support remote sites if required.
  • Able to work in distributed virtual teams as well as local groups
  • Experienced with the Drilling and Wells business with a sound understanding of the Wells Workflow and terminology
  • PCD (Process control Domain) understanding
  • PI (Process Information) in this case Drilling telemetry
