Description

We are Factory Direct Party, an e-commerce retailer since 2009 that sells party products globally.  We are looking for a very well-seasoned UX and UI guru who groks not only interface design but also how humans think (specifically, how humans think when shopping online).  In addition to knowing what looks good, you also know why, when, and how, and you’re able to clearly and authoritatively communicate the same.

You:

You’re confident.  You’re smart, hip and fun, and you feel that you possess that unique combination of the 3 that will put the helium in our birthday balloons and the party in our piñatas.  In your leisure time, you constantly experiment with new approaches to design and UI interaction.  The top 10 sites in your news reader belong to industry gurus and visionaries, and you’ve shaken hands with at least one of them.  You know that content is just as important as presentation.  You’re anal-retentively detail oriented, and you pride yourself on having a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to creating pixel-perfect designs.

What you’ll be doing:

  • During the first phase, you’ll examine our site’s design (aesthetic quality, UI behaviors, conversion paths, branding, copywriting, etc.), sales trends, competitors and target audience in order to determine the best “face” for our online store.  (Although that face may not launch a thousand ships, it sure as heck must launch a thousand browsers.)  This means that you’ll have the chance to redesign our site from the ground up.  Following the examination, you will implement the user interface — not just the static UI elements but also the navigation flow, information architecture, branding and copywriting.
  • The second, and ongoing, phase will consist primarily of regular iterations of the first phase in order to maintain the site’s quality.  Secondarily, but definitely not least importantly, you will be responsible for ensuring that we always stay at least one step ahead of our competitors.  This means always thinking about “what next”.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience
  • You live, eat and breathe the following: “insanely great” design taste, usability, UI interaction, user behavior, typography, user flows, and simplicity
  • A proven track record in designing successful e-commerce sites
  • A portfolio of your past work

Bonus Points:

  • Solid skills in modern HTML (HTML5), CSS (CSS3), and jQuery
  • An understanding of online marketing and advertisement

Additional Information:

This is a long-term contract position with the possibility of becoming a full-time employee.  If you’re in our area, work will be done on-site; otherwise, telecommuting is fine.
