Description

SAP BI/DWH Consultant - Dutch Speaking - Leuven, Belgium.

My client in Leuven, Belgium is looking for an SAP BI/DWH Consultant.

Profile:

  • Minimum 5 years experience with SAP BI 7  in multi-million records implementation,
  • Able to develop a technical vision within a subpart of an existing application.
  • Able to play on functional layer and SAP product layer
  • Able to develop an approach and implement data flows reengineering and data life cycle.
  • Deep BEx and custom web reporting skills.
  • Deep knowledge of DbConnect, SQL, XML and Oracle technologies.

Context:
1) PROJECT DWH REBOOST (40% of time)

The DWH has always shown issues and risk, leading to a unstable use of it:

  • Definition not aligned with client expectations or decisions not assumed.
  • Data quality issues linked to bug in the extraction design or issue during the extraction.
  • Unsufficient knowledge and remaining unclear ownership areas: at Indexis and at client sides.
  • The extraction design leads to an availability sensible to circumstances

The cause of this situation is multiple and mainly linked to an instable context since birth:

  • Positioning  of the tool vs queries, dynamic queries, screens on IMDMS database.
  • Application has been developed by several suppliers
  • Onwership of the tool and their report has moved from department to department, with a service sometimes unified, sometimes, split.
  • Recruiting issues: quality or timing (external people in structural positions).
  • Application has lived a technical move in 2009.

Since half 2010, the situation is becoming critical:

  • The use (number of clicks) is very low.
  • Several evidence of data desynchronization between DWH and the source IMDMS database has appeared, reducing the credibility of the tool.

The year 2011 offers opportunities

  • The application will be upgraded (BW3.5 -> BI7), leading to a frozen period and therefore lower activity for the BI Cell

During 2012, DWH Reboost phase I focused on internal analysis: Indexis performed analysis and implemented changes allowing to ensure that no fundamental technical issue or conception errors had been made in the extraction processes.
During 2013, DWH Reboost phase II will now focus on the users: the objective is to understand the sometimes poor use of the tool: lack of knowledge, incorrecte positioning, data quality, data freshness, performance and loading time.
This project is a joint project between IT and the team of Information process owners.

Within this activity, the role of the Application Analyst is to:

  • Link between project and BI Cell; answer to technical questions
  • Create and implement application usage indicators and dashboard
  • Create data/info life cycle tools (archiving/deletions/compressions) and implement the life cycles agreed with users.
  • In function of chosen report future (decommission, adapt, enhance), perform analysis to have these initiatives integrated a global technical vision (ODS, cubes, presentations)  to ensure synergies in development and performance of use no and tomorrow..
  • Implement the most complex solutions and/or coach the development team.

2) KIR: problem solving and change implementation (60% of time)
The Application maintenance team - called BI Cell - covers a broad range of applications and SAP modules. Due to the leave of several experienced internal and external profiles, the team need a specialist to pursue the coaching and address the complex issues faced daily with incidents and backlogged into problems. These problems are of different type: inefficient resource usage (disk, RAM, I/O), non performant data flows designs, data leaks,  etc etc.

Within this activity, the role of the Application Analyst is to:

  • Support the team in the analysis of the incidents.
  • Analyze the incidents to detect structural problems and suggest solutions to address them.
  • Support the Service Delivery manager (SDM) in estimating the effort to implement the solutions and in the set-up of action plans
  • Implement the complex solutions and coach technically the dev. team for the more simple ones.
  • Bridge towards our infrastructure team.
