Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Infrastructure Support

Brief description of supported infrastructure:-

Leeds City Council currently uses SharePoint to deliver its public web site along with various internal sites for intranet, collaboration and other applications.
The SharePoint infrastructure is currently provisioned on a mixture of HP physical and vSphere virtual servers, running Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 and SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, supported by MS SQL 2008 R2 and MS DPM 2010. There are extensive pre-production, development and test environments. The live infrastructure is split into two farms for internal and external sites. Changes are deployed to live using a combination of solution packages and PowerShell.

The SharePoint Infrastructure team proactively monitors, maintains, upgrades and implements fixes to the SharePoint infrastructure. They also assist with disaster recovery, backup/restore of SharePoint data and build and configuration of SharePoint servers and farms. The team provide Tier 2 support and assist with the implementation of SharePoint related projects.

Key Skills

The team consists of 2 full time employees and are planning to expand. We are looking for an individual with support skills aligned to SharePoint 2010 infrastructure. This individual should be able to work as part of a team as well as on their own with the ability to propose and implement solutions to problems. An understanding of ITIL is essential with the ability to apply its principles to this role. Good communication skills are essential as the job involves interacting with customers, third party suppliers, business stakeholders and project managers. The individual must also be able to produce good documentation to allow for knowledge transfer and setting standards. This post may involve leading on projects within the team so good project management skills are desirable. The nature of the job lends itself to someone with good analytical and problem solving skills. We seek someone with experience and confidence in working with the full range of SharePoint tools, PowerShell, MS DPM 2010. The successful candidate must have an excellent technical understanding of SharePoint infrastructure.

Responsibilities typically include but not limited to:-

* Manage, monitor and maintain the SharePoint 2010 infrastructure.
* Monitor incidents and problems and troubleshoot in line with ITIL.
* Undertake infrastructure scheduled patching, solution deployments and other infrastructure changes following change management procedures.
* Provide advice regarding infrastructure developments and ongoing projects
* Train other members of the team

Essential tasks

* Act as an escalation point for SharePoint Infrastructure configuration and troubleshooting issues and queries.
* Implement and deploy configuration changes, new web applications and packaged solutions, using PowerShell and appropriate tools.
* Build and add new SharePoint servers to the farm and redistribute roles where appropriate.
* Apply SharePoint patches.
* Implement and troubleshoot backup and restore using MS DPM 2010.
* Monitor and analyse SharePoint resource utilisation and capacity, make recommendations and take appropriate action.
* Develop and implement disaster recovery procedures and carry out regular tests.
* Develop and implement written procedures where appropriate.

Desirable tasks

* Experience and knowledge of working with VMware vSphere 4
* Management and deployment of virtual machines and templates
* Active Directory Administration (users, groups and DNS)
* A good understanding of Active Directory and authentication.
* Dealing with Remedy service desk calls & ensuring resolution within SLA targets
* Updating the CMDB and keeping accurate records
* Working to quality standards
* Taking part in on-call and out of hours activities where required
