The IT Applications Consultant (Programmer/Programmer Analyst) - IT Customer Operations is responsible for designing, developing and supporting the IT application systems & underlying databases for clients in the Customer Operations Business Unit. This position is focused on, but not limited to, the Natural Gas & Electric Management Business Function. The focus of the team is primarily on, but not limited to, software development and supporting custom developed applications.

Responsibilities include:
  • Working with business clients to identify business requirements
  • Providing technical expertise in the evaluation of software solutions
  • Software design (UML modelling), development (programming) and testing
  • Application training
  • Creating technical and user documentation
  • Implementation and ongoing production support of software

    Production support includes troubleshooting applications, interaction with software vendors, as well as solving and responding to client requests. Reoccurring daily, weekly and monthly activities are also part of the support responsibilities. Ability to work independently or as a team member is required.

    The successful candidate will frequently be working independently, on small project teams or as a team member on larger projects. You will also develop and leverage extensive business knowledge focused on the applications and business processes which support regulatory compliance and Generation business operations.

    Candidates must have completed a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, IT or a related discipline.

    Preferred skills for successful candidate:
  • A strong background with all phases of the IT Software Development Lifecycle and IT Project Management Methodology.
  • Competency with Visual Basic.NET and Active Server Pages.

    Successful candidate should have:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, team members and vendors
  • Strong analysis, decision making and problem solving abilities
  • Organizing and planning skills necessary to work independently
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong technical IT skills that includes application architecture
  • Competency with many of the following tools/platforms: Java, JavaScript, VB.NET, Web Services, Visual Studio, SQL, Oracle and MS SQL Server.
