Project/Delivery Line Description
Our client is extensively using BizTalk and SSIS for Enterprise Application Intergration and Inter Enterprise Integration. The currently used platforms/versions are approaching end-of-life. New platforms, based on BizTalk 2010 and SSIS 2008 have been put in place and between now and end of 2014 all interfaces (~1800 BizTalk, ~900 SSIS) need to be migrated to the new platforms.
The migration approach will be highly repetitive, with interfaces being grouped into bundles and each bundle being taken through an already defined and tested migration process. The migration of each bundle will be run as a separate (small) sub-project. An engagement and planning exercise is currently being started to define the bundles and the timing of them.
The major challenges for this project are:
- The scope of the project touches all businesses in our client (Downstream, Upstream, Global Functions, Trading), as all are using BT and SSIS
- The migration of bundles will have to take into account multiple dependencies, eg where interfaces are undergoing change from business projects, black-out periods due to other major project activities, availability of resources in DV's and SOM to provide their contribution to the project
- It is expected that a large part of the interfaces will be migrated as part of change projects and hence outside this project.
- Technical migration will be executed by a migration factory and testing will be done by a testing team; both are supplied by Wipro and for maximum efficiency a constant pipeline of work needs to be funneled through the pipeline
The platform delivery has been done by the ITSO-EAP organisation whilst the migration will be coordinated by EIS.
The first task of the PM will be to complete the investment proposal and obtain approval for the funding, followed by resourcing the project team and launching the project.
