A Senior Technical Project Manager, with strong experience in all areas of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) is needed for an immediate 6-12 month (or longer) contract in Dunwoody area. Ideal candidates would have a good balance of experience between leading software development projects and deploying large packaged software implementations. Experience in the Telecommunications industry, OSS/BSS would be a big plus, but is not required.

Thorough knowledge of the Systems/Software Implementation Life Cycle combined with a STRONG technical background is required. This is not a hands-on technical position. But we do want PMs who can understand the issues and the technical hurdles.

We are also only interested in seeing candidates local to the metro Atlanta area, able to commute to and from Dunwoody, GA with a reasonable drive.

DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Technical Project Manager role is responsible for the management of software, deployment, infrastructure, and occasionally business initiatives. The PM could be assigned to one large project or several unrelated, concurrent projects.

The projects are typically technical in nature, and while the role is not a technical assignment, the chosen PM must have prior technical experience given the PM is expected to influence design decisions. That experience can be as a Software Engineer, Development Manager, Network Engineer, Sys Admin, DBA, Technical BA, or related technical discipline.

Prior experience as a PM in the SDLC relating to large software development projects will also be a big plus. Prior experience as a PM for package software implementations, network deployments, and other large infrastructure environments will also be very helpful.

Adaptability to work within the existing client PM methodology and the ability to manage resources in a Matrix environment is critical.

As this role is PM work for a delivery management group, the ability to build very detailed project schedules, generate WBS, Risk Management/Mitigation plans, Communication plans using the Microsoft Suite of products is also a key requirement.

The PM should be adept at overcoming technical, capacity, and human obstacles and should be a relationship builder. This role will lead other technical personnel including developers, architects, technical analysts, and business analysts. The PM should be a confident leader who is comfortable accepting accountability for the ultimate outcome of the project/program.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish the scope and goals of the project.
  • Establish a pragmatic, detailed plan to ensure the project is executed and meets the goals of the sponsor. Identify and articulate the risks of the project.
  • Drive project issues through to resolution using the methodology established for the department.
  • Ensure the finished project is supportable through frequent life cycle communications with the operational team that will ultimately run the systems and processes being implemented.
  • Build a structured approach to successfully complete the project in the allotted time.
  • Develop written project plans that are understandable and match the capacity and ability of the organization. Effectively communicate those plans with all project team members and leadership constituents.
  • Determine the personnel, capital resources, equipment, and tools needed to complete the project (ie know how to estimate). Proactively manage resource and scheduling issues.
  • Manage change control procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • PMP Certification through PMI is a hard requirement. Willingness to utilize the incumbent formal methodology without attempting to re-engineer is absolutely required.

  • 4 or more years of project management experience
  • Have worked on several projects for the full life cycle
  • Ability to identify and understand complex problems/issues and develop solutions.
  • Experience with group facilitation
  • Ability to manage large-scale projects
