Solaris/Linux System Administrator to work in our data center. 

Qualified candidates will be expected to take on the following duties: 

  • Day-to-day administration on a network of over 500 Intel-based Solaris Servers running a variety of applications in two geographically separated data centers
  • Handle configuration and support of a portfolio of custom Java applications, most running on the Resin Application Server
  • Day-to-day administration of a smaller but growing group of Linux systems, most running recent versions of CentOS
  • Administration and support of our company backup system, which is based on Symantec NetBackup and a pair of Quantum VTL devices, plus a Quantum LTO-5 tape library
  • Support and troubleshooting of our base company service infrastructure such as DNS, Postfix email Servers, and LDAP authentication systems
  • Provide support to our development teams, both in-house and outsourced, by maintaining the Servers used for development of Java applications and building/delivering Servers as needed
  • Coordinate and cooperate with our existing team of 5 administrators to avoid duplicative or conflicting work.

We need the following skills/experience:

  • At least 5 years supporting Solaris in a production environment
  • At least 3 years supporting Linux in a production environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Solaris administration and automation tools
  • In-depth knowledge of the ZFS file system and its administration/configuration
  • Familiarity with all basic UNIX services/protocols such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, SMTP, etc.
  • Familiarity with NetApp fileservers and administration tools
  • High-level Scripting skills in at least one of the following languages: Perl, Ruby, PHP, or one of the standard shells like sh, bash or ksh
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Documentation using standard wiki markup languages
