The Governors of a popular Primary School in West Bromwich are currently recruiting a SENCO 1 day per week commencing January 2013. The vacancy is temporary for two terms initially.

The school want an enthusiastic SENCO who is able to build on the provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will form part of the Senior Leadership Team and will be expected to contribute to furthering the school development in particular to standards, progress and achievement.

You should have the desire and determination to work within challenging circumstances. The position offers a fantastic opportunity to be involved in developing the school's vision. You must be committed to raising the standard of achievement of Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LLDD), increase staff confidence and competence in teaching LLDD and ensure pupil entitlement to the National Curriculum.
Successful applicants will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and hold at least 2 years teaching experience
Have experience teaching at Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 (KS1) or Key Stage 2 (KS2)
Have completed or be willing to complete SENCO qualification and/or certificate
Have experience in training other teachers and/or introducing SEN initiatives
Have experience in setting targets and monitoring, evaluating and recording progress

Your responsibilities will include:
Overseeing the operation of the school's SEN policy
Liaising with, supporting, advising and training colleagues
Managing the SEN team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs)
Co-ordinating the provision of SEN
Overseeing the records of all pupils with SEN
Liaising with parents and external professionals

The role of a Special Educational Needs Teacher will require
A relevant SEN teaching qualification;
Ideally experience working in an SEN environment;
Recent experience in a classroom environment;
An excellent track record;
Good knowledge of the national curriculum;
Strong interpersonal and people management skills;
Flexibility and adaptability to work short-term and long-term.
