Job Title:  Service Operator

Purpose: 
The Service Operator role is to operate computer equipment in conjunction with software applications to execute business processes.  This would include processing batch cycles for proprietary software applications and processing the output from proprietary systems batch cycles.  The Service Operator role is also responsible for monitoring infrastructure and working with other IT teams as required to resolve IT service issues as they are identified.  The work hours for this position include evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
-Communicate to IT Development Groups on process errors to ensure proper resolution to problems
-Conduct code turnovers to in accordance with Change Control guidelines
-Monitor infrastructure and report on IT services that become degraded or unavailable
-Follow the escalation documentation for monitoring various IT services and log incident tickets into the incident tracking system (SDE) for discovered degraded or down IT services
-Initiate bridge lines (audio conference) as required to resolve degraded or down IT services
-Monitor backup infrastructure and log incident tickets for backup hardware such as tape drives that are discovered to be degraded or down
-Monitor backups and restart any backups that fail.  Log incident tickets into the incident tracking system (SDE) for Servers that were unable to complete a successful backup
-Provide a daily status report to IT associates in regards to overnight activities that occurred with batch processing, backups, and printing
-Maintain a solid understanding of departmental guidelines, system tools, workflows, escalation documents and other materials needed to fulfil work assignments as it relates to batch processing, printing, monitoring infrastructure, and monitoring backups
-Analyze variables to identify trends, inefficiencies in existing business and batch processes
-Identify batch processes with proprietary systems that have an increase in processing times.  Determine which cycle step has the increase in time and make recommendations to Operations Team manager as to how the batch processing time can be reduced.
-Analyze existing business processes that the Operations Team is responsible for and identify how the process can be streamlined for increased efficiency.  Make recommendation to Operations Team manager as these inefficiencies are identified.
-Identify manual business processes that could be automated and make recommendations to Operations Team manager.
-Maintain up to date knowledge of the batch processes for systems and backup technology and update existing procedure documentation as required.
-Execute and print ad-hoc reports and policy statements as scheduled or requested within the agreed timeframe.  This includes daily, weekly and month end processing.
-Work with the IT Development groups to maintain changes that are to be made to existing batch processes.  Update procedure documentation as required in order to account for changes made to existing batch processes.
