The ECO Chemical Engineer with be part of the R&D group. R&D is the center of all lens design, material and process development within CVi leading to the creation of new product and process opportunities for the business.

R&D is also involved in the key engineering change orders (ECO's) for business critical products to ensure that the proposed changes have had significant input from subject matter experts (SME's) and have been appropriately screened (and if applicable tested) for risk. The purpose of this role is to be part of the ECO team that has input into the change and its due diligence before implementation.

This primary function of this role will involve working with the manufacturing, QA and R&D function to assist in the management of the ECO process.

The job holder will be a technical expert in their field and will be recognised throughout the department and beyond as a highly skilled practitioner in their area.

The job holder will have detailed knowledge of chemical engineering such that they can critically assess and assist in changes to existing processes and raw materials so that the quality and safety of all products are maintained at all times. The job holder will also be well practised in the use of statistical tools so that the greatest amount of information possible can be yielded from the work carried out.

The role will involve a mixture of both experimental and office based scientific work and the job holder will be expected to work with very little supervision. The job holder will be expected to be an effective communicator to feedback results to appropriate stakeholders.

The workload will fluctuate between low levels of activity to periods of very high intensity. During periods of low volume the jobholder will be expected to get involved in activities which contribute to R&D department objectives.

Technical
  • Expert in chemical engineering
  • Analyze proposed changes and assess risk to process and product
  • Deliver robust experiments to lower risk levels of proposed changes
  • Use statistical techniques to verify results; analyze own and other's results to draw valid conclusions
  • Ensure that their technical knowledge and capability remains at the cutting edge of their discipline
  • Write high quality reports detailing experimental work
  • Present work at meetings both internal and external to the department when required


Business Relationships
  • Establish and maintain relationships with manufacturing, QA, and ADC/R&D to provide good understanding of the technical requirements of those departments.
  • To demonstrate technical excellence to other departments and ensure that confidence in robust change control process is maintained.


Time
  • Work with change teams to ensure timely delivery of results.


Quality
  • Ensure that technical area of responsibility complies with business quality systems.
  • Ensure that deployed manufacturing changes and final product quality are fit for purpose and safe.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation
