Senior Search Engine Technology Expert wanted for our international end client in The Hague!

Start:
Duration: 6 months, option to extend
Hourly rate: 60,00 Euros

About the job:
The goal of the ITR Stream II program is to improve the efficiency of the search performed by the examiners while maintaining or improving its quality for both the examiners and the external users. To tackle those challenges, Stream II aims at achieving a higher degree of user assistance and automation of prior art search.
This goal supposes to take advantage of modern search technologies and to adapt the existing search process and functionalities.

What you will do:

  • Contributing to the realisation of the search Back End infrastructure and services introduced by the ITR project TAPAS (based on ElasticSearch/Lucene)
  • Participation to the realisation of a benchmarking environment for prior art search systems
  • Technical advice and support on the foundation of a large-scale cloud oriented search service infrastructure
  • Supporting prototyping activities around the usage of text mining for Information Retrieval and prior art search applications
  • Deployment of components and applications in line with Architectural Guidelines regarding introduction of new services
  • Liaise with the project team and the different projects in the IRT Roadmap program for testing and acceptance of the deployments
  • Supporting operation and system during development and test phase
  • Support project and technical managers for technical decisions
  • Support for the design, specifications, test and deployment of a benchmarking and evaluation application for prior art search systems
  • Support for the design, specifications, development, test, evaluation and tuning of the search
  • Back End infrastructure and services of the ITR project TAPAS
  • Support for the prototyping, test, evaluation and tuning of text mining modules applied to patent documents
  • Provide architectural advices regarding the technical infrastructure of large scale search prototypes
  • A pro-active support in proposing alternative technical solutions and design improvements is expected.

Technical must have skills

  • A strong theoretical background in Information Retrieval
  • Solid practical experience with state of the art open source search engines (eg Lucene, Solr, ElasticSearch, Lemur, etc.): data preparation, prototyping, indexing, querying, customising, testing, scaling
  • Good comprehension of modern retrieval and ranking algorithms (BM25, statistical language models)
  • Distributed and scalable search architecture
  • Text mining
  • Search evaluation methodologies and practices
  • Java programming (including -but not limited to- JEE, Web development n-tier technologies and testing tools like jUnit)
  • Object Oriented modelling and design (UML and Design Patterns),
  • JBoss Application Server
  • XML, XSD, XSL, XPATH, XQUERY
  • NOSQL document database solutions, eg MongoDB, CouchDB, MarkLogic, etc.

Proven experience in the following domains:

  • Deployment and production-level operation of distributed search technologies
  • Performance monitoring for distributed search systems
  • Machine learning (Decision tree, MLP, SVM, etc.)
  • Statistical Natural Language Processing (HMM, CRF, etc.)
  • Semantic-based information retrieval methods (eg Latent Semantic Indexing)
  • Analytical skills, including data analysis skills
  • Test driven development in an Agile environment
  • Spring framework and suite of tools, including -but nor limited to- Spring MVC
  • RDBMS database technologies
  • jMeter performance test tool
  • Operating Systems: Linux or zLinux
  • Javascript programming
  • Maven 2
  • Hudson Continuous Integration server
  • Nexus artefact repository manager

The following optional skills would also be appreciated:

  • Knowledge in patent information
  • Knowledge of technical and scientific information
  • Knowledge of technical and scientific knowledge-based framework (eg multilingual terminological databases, ontologies)
  • Semantic analysis of text (word sense disambiguation, concept extraction, etc.)
  • BIRT reporting framework
  • BPM and BPMN
  • Cloud-based computing
  • Database interface technologies:
  • ORM, JAXB, Hibernate
  • JDBC or SQLJ
