Mechanical Engineer - 6 months - Surrey - £17-19 per hour

My client, a leading pharmaceutical company, is currently looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer on a 6 month contract to provide additional capacity to provide Preventive and Corrective Maintenance of all engineering equipment on site.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Effective preventive maintenance of process equipment and systems that provide essential services for site production. Equipment and processes included are: calorifiers, pumps, autoclaves, Air Handling Units, R.O Water and WFI generation, vessels with their associated controls and site utilities generating equipment and systems.
  • Effective fault finding and problem solving on mechanical systems to minimise business impact.
  • Installation of mechanical process systems and equipment including pipework.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and respond to equipment breakdowns.
  • Complete all work records within the CMMS system to maintain accurate equipment history.
  • Participate in the development of the preventive maintenance programme and work to a maintenance schedule.
  • Develop and create risk assessments and method statements, and to report all unsafe conditions.
  • Working in a GMP and Bio-Secure restricted environment.
  • Implement basic maintenance outside core discipline eg minor building repairs, carpentry, making good.
  • To participate in a weekend/weekly rota for preventive and corrective maintenance work providing effective 24 hour cover for the site
  • To work with other engineers to maintain the site to a safe and reliable standard
  • To ensure that all work is carried out in a timely and cost effective manner fully respecting UK and company HSE, Bio Security and GMP Standards
  • To identify and with the support of management, implement improvements in mechanical standards and efficiencies on the site.
  • To support specialist contracting electricians when on site and to ensure that all work is carried out respecting HSE, Bio Security and GMP standards
  • Knowledge and skills:

    Qualified mechanical craftsman to city & guilds, BTEC or equivalent. Experienced fault finding and diagnosis. Experience of pipe fitting, fabrication, pneumatics. Basic knowledge of trades such as building carpentry. Good team working essential. Good IT skills. Experience of working to GMP standards within laboratories is desirable.
