Communications Advisor - London

My client, a high profile Oil & Gas company, is looking for a Communications Advisor to join their team in Central London.

Role Synopsis:

This is a fixed term contract for 6 months. The role will report to the Biofuels Global Communications Manager and be part of a small team focused on implementing the business's communications strategy and plan.
The successful candidate will work directly with leaders and subject matter experts within the business and interact and partner closely with the Alternative Energy communications and Group and Regional internal and external communications communities.
The role develops communications content for delivery through existing and new channels to support the positioning and commercial success of Biofuels and Emerging Business and Ventures (EB&V).

Accountabilities:
To ensure that HSSE is fully and appropriately considered and implemented as part of any communications activities.
Create original and develop existing content and materials to deliver the communications plan in support of the business strategy.
Determine where content is resident within the business and possess the capabilities to capture and adapt it to the needs of different audiences.
Manage and prioritise appropriate channels for delivery of communications "product" and drive content output at a consistently high standard. This will include some of the following channels and activities (although these may change from time to time):
Implement a podium strategy for Biofuels & EB&V including development of all briefing materials, speech content, logistics of LT members' participation and follow-on capture of feedback and information of key opinion leaders identified for each podium appearance.
Maintain and update the Biofuels and EB&V external facing websites ensuring that they reflect the business strategy and responds to the needs to target audiences.
Co-ordinate proactive engagement with trade and mainstream media to get key Biofuels & EB&V messages out to target audiences, working with the Group Press Office. Develop/co-ordinate briefing materials for Biofuels/EB&V spokespeople prior to media interviews and provide responses/quotes reactively to media enquiries.
Develop and implement external and internal communications plans for business announcements, co-ordinating with JV partners and internal stakeholders, using appropriate tactics.
Keep communications elements of crisis communications processes up-to-date. Participate in emergency response exercises and real events.
Develop and implement the Biofuels & EB&V corporate internal communications plans Provide communications support to biofuels joint ventures and EB&V portfolio companies and external public commitments (such as CCP) as required, bringing in additional resource where necessary to implement.
Contribute to the BU's issues management processes. Develop a good awareness of sustainability and technology issues relevant to the business.

Essential Criteria:
A good understanding of and demonstrable experience of linking an organisation's business strategy and commercial realities to the role of communications initiatives in driving success in the marketplace. Progressive experience in relevant communications roles with both internal and external audiences that have included developing content around complex and often controversial products/issues including issues of energy security, sustainability and advanced technologies.
Ability to work across diverse parts of the organisation to accomplish access to content necessary to create and refine communications products.
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise multi-channel delivery of communications projects, including experience with the distinct demands of digital channels.
Experience with evaluating impacts of communications initiatives and making appropriate 'course corrections' to communications initiatives.
Good record of working with and advising other managers in the business, particularly in translating complex technical aspects of the business to communications content for broader audiences.
Ability to create an effective communication network and build collaborative relationships in a Matrix organisation.
Creative thinker, good written and oral presentation skills, appreciation of design and visual communications
Knowledge of digital media and its particular implications for the execution of the biofuels communications strategy
Resilient, with the ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain high levels of professionalism under pressure
Strong people orientation, interpersonal sensitivity, inclusive style and strong personal impact
A flexible approach, able to cope with changing priorities and deadlines. Ability to work with minimal supervision

Desirable Criteria:
Ability to develop communications content relevant to energy issues and translate that content into a number of relevant formats including: template presentation development, media 'pitches', speeches appropriate for lay/non-specialist audiences.
Ability to coordinate collaboratively from various internal sources, content development relevant to positioning and message framework.
Experience and understanding of reputation management and internal structures for managing internal and external communications an advantage.
