Te role of a Senior Software Engineer requires solving a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways. Peer/manager reviews exist at this level. The Senior Software Engineer must be able to take ownership of specific complex tasks, and take them to completion
SKILLS
ESSENTIAL
- Software Engineering best practices, patterns, etc.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong technical skills and understanding gained through previous development experience
- Project development life cycle
- Design and development methodologies UNIX Operating System C/C++ and/or Java development
- Unix, TCL, Perl or similar Scripting
- Able to work on own initiative
USEFUL
- Policy Management/Charging systems experience
- Billing/Mediation systems experience
- Working with CMM or ISO 9000
- Relational Database, preferably Oracle
- Telecoms Protocols, especially Diameter
EXPERIENCE INDICATORS
ESSENTIAL
- Working within a small team of software engineers (4-6 engineers)
- Developing multi-customer software applications ( especially a new product)
- Application design and architecture
- Relevant industry experience and ability to clearly describe technical content
- Successfully working under pressure/tight deadlines
- Developing telecoms applications (as above)
- Release maintenance (EPs, hot-fixes, etc.)
- Developing using the Agile methodology
- Version Control (CVS, SVN, ClearCase, etc.)
- Interpreting and applying telecom standards to solutions
- Leading a small team of software engineers (4-6 engineers)
- Performance Reviewing of engineers
- Project estimation and planning
- Customer focused/facing work
