Description of Job Purpose:
The Mechanical Designer is fundamentally a hands-on CAD draughting based role. Mechanical Designers are responsible for maintaining and developing the engineers' designs as working drawings and ensuring design standards and codes are adhered to throughout the design process.

* Design draughting to meet technical specifications, drawing standards and codes primarily using AutoCAD and Inventor * Development of designs to fit within space envelope and design interfaces * Preparation of manufacturing and installation drawings including detailing, dimensioning and tolerances * Recording design changes following design change control procedures * Liaison with Document Controllers and Design Engineers * Systematic, methodical, procedural, precise * Expert mind-set, non-confrontational, logical, steady, committed * Good listener, cautious, compliant

Future Possible Progression:
Development can be to Design Engineer upon satisfactory experience and qualifications however the Mechanical Designer can be a career choice.

Required Qualifications:
* Minimum HNC in a technical/engineering discipline is essential
* A full UK drivers licence is essential for this position as travelling between offices may be required
* Some projects require high level security clearance (SC or DV) and as such existing SC or DV clearance is desirable

Required Experience:
* Demonstrable competence gained in a design delivery position
* Must have experience of AutoCAD and Inventor
* Good understanding of first engineering principles is preferred e.g. Forces, stresses, materials selection and design principles
* Experience gained in the nuclear is essential for some of our projects and non-essential for others
* Candidates will need to have gained experience working in a highly regulated industry where safe and substantiated design and design control is paramount
* Technical experience could be gained from but is not limited to precision engineering, conveyor systems, remote handling systems / equipment, heavy engineering, cranes, pipes and pumps
