Description

As the Onshore Civil Engineer you will be responsible for the technical management of all civil engineering design and construction matters within the onshore cable route and substation. You will support the Electrical System Package Manager in defining the engineering strategy, writing specifications, selecting contractors, managing site survey and works contractors, review of design drawings and construction method statements, assisting in the definition and management of interfaces, and with safety, environmental, and quality management.

Main activities within the civil discipline will include topological and geophysical surveys, geotechnical surveys, owners engineering, cable route planning and layout planning, road planning and abnormal load routing, detailed design, site clearance enabling works, HDD, cable crossings and transition pits, substation area, GIS and control buildings. Stakeholders will include landowners, third party agreements, National Grid and the project works contractors.

Principal Accountabilities:

Project Organisation
-Supporting the Electrical System Package Manager in all related activities with respect to onshore civil works including project management and technical management
-Fulfilling project requirements under the project controls and governance system
-Organise and chair technical meetings with third parties when necessary.
-Assisting with project budget and programme definition
-Planning and provision of external technical support to the project team including fulfilling the role of Technical Officer on external engineering consultancy contracts
-Site visits and site works supervision (Suffolk)

Project Design
-Management and mitigation of technical risks to the project with the civil discipline
-Ensuring a consistent, coherent design, balancing the requirements of budget, programme, quality, constructability and operability
-Actively support design checking, review and approval process in operation on the project

Safety and Environment
-Ensuring safety and environmental considerations are fundamental input to the design process and that design is consistent with consent conditions, policy and regulations
-Ensuring design options and decisions are justified and recorded
-Ensuring that appropriate Design Safety Reviews considering constructability and operability are carried out in a timely manner

Quality
-Providing technical support to the Quality Manager during supervision of site investigations and construction works
-Ensuring any failure of the works contractors to comply with design intent is communicated to Electrical Project Manager
-Review and comment on project close-out documentation

Knowledge and Skills:
-University degree or comparable graduate education in civil or structural engineering
-Experience of onshore civil construction, civil and structural design and building services
-Experience of major construction projects ideally within the energy industry
-Fluent in English speaking / writing
