A leading utilities firm located on the Eastern Seaboard of Australia requires a Release Manager for an initial six month term to review current release management processes to insure defined best practice methods are in place.  

Role Responsibilities:
  • Develop and document the release approach and plan, to cover the deployment of a release through all environments.
  • Liaises with other release coordinators to ensure all release and system inter-dependencies or pre-requisites are considered.
  • Prepares the release schedule in line with the project and test schedules.
  • Acts as the central liaison point for releases throughout the project.
  • Coordinates the deployment of a release, based on the release plan and schedule.
  • Develops process for integrating production changes or hot fixes into the release process.
  • Reviews release notes and confirms release package contents.
  • Ensures release packages are secured and only approved versions are installed.
  • Liaises with the vendor on issues with release packages and their deployment.
  • Develops and maintains the deployment run sheet to ensure the production deployment uses a proven process.
  • Track all releases and changes, in all environments.
  • Coordinates deployment resources and availability.
  • Logs issues with releases and coordinates their resolution.
  • Completes the Release Summary Report to support the move to live of the release.
  • Prepares the Release Post Implementation Review.
  • Provides input into improvement of the release management process.
  • Provides  regular reporting to the Release Manager on the status of a release and attends release management meetings.
Required skills and qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualification in Information Systems or Information Technology or demonstrated work experience to a similar level of competency.
  • Proficiency in ITIL Change and Release Management OR has gained experience (typically three years) in related areas.
  • Proven experience in the management of project and operational releases and upgrades for new business systems.
  • Involvement in and understanding of the software development life cycle. 
  • Working knowledge of project and test methodologies.
  • Ability to organise, plan and prioritise work and coordinate input from others to deliver timely results.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
