Outsource UK Ltd are actively seeking to recruit for a contract role on behalf of a client.

The Client: World leader in defence markets

The Job:

  • Undertaking concept design studies, considering options in all aspects of engineering.
  • Requirements definitions and design of the CCS Architecture, including Virtualised Processing, High Resilience networking, health monitoring, display solutions, storage and cabinet solutions, and Built in Test.
  • Leading the implementations of the CCS Architecture on specific Boat types, and defining the subsystem design and requirements for the Common Infrastructure.
  • Agreeing the Statements of Technical Requirements and technology deliverables to enable Common Infrastructure subcontract procurement.
  • Defining test, evaluation and acceptance strategies and plans for CCS Architecture implementations.
  • Provide evidence for and support to qualification, meeting of legislative, safety and security requirements,and fitness for purpose justifications, to achieve acceptance and design certification.
  • Defining the CCS Architecture and Common Infrastructure development route map in collaboration with internal and external Customer stakeholders, and through liaison with procurement and technology providers including software/design houses.
  • Defining future technology road maps, and in support of this defining and implementing future generation Architecture/Infrastructure prototypes
  • Undertaking peer reviews and checking/verification tasks.
  • Articulating and presenting detailed technical argument clearly, logically and simply.
  • Gaining a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and Safety, Health & Environment Management
  • System documentation (eg Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments) applicable to their work scope.
  • Liaising with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are clearly defined and appropriately supported.
  • Providing specialist advice for their scope of responsibility.
  • Contribute to identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product life cycle stages an manage the resulting change embodiment activities.
  • Owning and reporting on the assigned programme of work and delivering to schedule, cost and quality,including through identification and active response to risks/issues.

Person/Qualifications

  • Infrastructure Sizing & Allocation Definition
  • Update the Common Infrastructure as the overall Combat System design matures and as technology evolves over the 2 year period under consideration.
  • Maintain Combat System Tactical Network Design, including ensuring that the ability of the network to handle the required data rates is maintained and that appropriate technology is assumed.
  • Review the cabinet sizing to ensure that the sizing estimates previously performed remain valid and that Moore's law assumptions continue to hold true.
  • Ensure that the cabinet design is sufficient for the assigned contents and promulgate cabling requirements to the Combat System Physical Design team (who are responsible for the design of the cabinets).
  • Maintain Cabinet allocations
  • Common Infrastructure Architecture Design.
  • Evaluate whether the current version of the Common Combat System Common Infrastructure Architecture will support Successor and recommend options for change.
  • Liaise with Suppliers and Successor Systems Team Members
  • Agree technical solutions, coherent with the Successor and Common Combat System Design

  • Essential - Extensive experience of complex system design and qualification
  • Essential - Thorough understanding of requirements management and acceptance
  • Essential - Knowledge of the techniques of Systems Engineering
  • Essential - Self-motivation, an enthusiasm for problem solving, and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Desirable - Experience of Systems Engineering in a Naval Platform arena (Submarines/Surface Ships)
  • Desirable - Knowledge of network and high performance processing systems design
  • Desirable - Knowledge and experience of Virtualisation techniques and tools
