Job Description:
The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis is looking for a developer to build a custom WordPress theme that is responsive and can act as a mobile website. The site would be designed for CAM’s Annual City-Wide Open Studios program and act as a mobile database of participating artists equipped with an interactive map feature.

The site would allow a St. Louisan to search (by discipline, neighborhood, studio, or name) a user friendly database or list of participating artists/studios. When a particular artist of interest was located, a user could select that studio and the website would provide more information including: studio name, representative image, address, website, media categories, brief description, date/time open (usually assigned automatically depending on location). The page would also have clickable links including: address that linked to a google map in which a user could obtain directions from their exact location to the studio and artist’s website link. Beyond the artist specific map functionality, the user should be able to see a google map of all participating artist studios, allowing a user to visit as many as they wish (note: studio openings are divided into 2 days, Sat/Sun depending upon location – North or South of CAM).

Optimally, this site would allow all interested artists to participate, thus having some type of “login” feature that allow artists to upload such information such as studio name, representative image, address, website, media categories, and brief description and be able to opt out, cancel, or change info as necessary. Note: Many might want to deactivate their address after the open studios weekend, because for some it is also a home address. Usually over 170 artists participate. I am hoping to grow that number by getting a relevant, user friendly, mobile technological tool (mobile website) in the hands of a potential visitor.

Timeline: Responsive mobile website developed and launched publicly by end of April 2013.

Outlined are some of the features it would require:

User Interface
  • Include basic info on CAM, CWOS program, and dates/times, and related events.
  • Interactive map feature that includes all participating studios w/ address and other relevant info (times studio is open, website, etc.) can be google, open street map, etc., also allows users to plan their tour to studios or obtain directions
  • Ability to get directions to a location/studio from current location (without leaving the site, if possible).
  • Calendar of events or schedule of public programs + guided tours w/ times bike tours, bus tours, walking tours, parties, etc. and also maybe allowing the user to see the designated route (or the stops on the tour)
  • Design to be clean, user-friendly, and align w/ our current web branding
  • Allow artist registration and creation/editing of posts (limited to the functionality as mentioned above)
