The successful candidate will provide a pro-active benefits management service for Group Protection and authorise payment of death, income protection and critical illness claims.


Key Responsibilities
Provide a comprehensive assessment and management of Income Protection and Critical Illness claims, deciding whether to accept or reject liability, whilst meeting the expectations of the IFA's and our corporate clients.

Develop and build effective relationships with IFA's and Policyholders (employers), both pre and post sale,in order to maximise the effectiveness of our benefit management processes.

Promote understanding of our benefit management philosophy and operating procedures to IFA's and corporate clients.
Develop and build effective relationships with our external suppliers to ensure that we receive cost effective services.

Propose and authorise expenditure on rehabilitation or work re-integration programmes up to £15,000 and authorise appropriate external medical evidence to support the assessment of the claim up to £5,000.

Authorise payment of death claims up to a maximum of £1m.
Train, mentor and develop other members of the benefits team, to improve their skill level.
Define, develop and deliver, processes and systems to ensure a consistent and good level of service that means customers expectations are met, is consistent with what we have communicated and is aligned to L&G's Customer Experience and Treating Customers Fairly policy.

Define, develop & deliver processes & systems to ensure that all customer data is dealt with appropriately in accordance with legislation, in particular the Data Protection Act (1995), the Access to Medical Reports Act (1988) and Legal & General's Confidentiality Policy.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience required
In depth knowledge of core Group Protection products and assessment experience.
Good judgement to enable the correct assessment of Income Protection and Critical Illness claims
In depth knowledge of medical conditions, occupations, avocations and other risk factors.
An awareness of medical developments, regulatory requirements (e.g. ABI directives) and changes to Legal & General or their reassures'' claims philosophy and protocols.
