Background:
The VMware environment consists of multiple clusters hosted on IBM xSeries, distributed across two geographical locations hosting a combination of both Linux and Windows based guests.
What you will do:
- Assisting the team in design, planning, implementation, maintenance and support of the VMware infrastructure.
- Provide 3rd line support for incident management and problem solving.
Responsibilities:
- Be jointly responsible for the management, configuration and administration of the VMware systems infrastructure
- Establish and maintain best practice standards for configuration of related technologies including server, networking and storage
- Maintain systems while undertaking upgrades and/or virtualisation projects
- Manage the testing and upgrade of the VMware systems infrastructure
- Develop, manage and be responsible for the data backup and recovery strategy, including DR testing of the Group"s VMware deployment
- Ensure that relevant security-, legal-, software licence- and audit-policies are implemented and monitored.
- Provide VMware infrastructure support
Technical Skills:
- In depth knowledge of vSphere 5 with VCP 5 certification
- Good knowledge of both Linux and Windows operating systems software
- Powershell/PowerCLI Scripting
- Good networking skills and in depth TCP/IP understanding essential, vSphere distributed Switches
- In depth knowledge of Intel-based Servers
- Understanding of SAN technologies, design and usage
- VMware vCloud Director (vCD) certification desirable
- VMware VCAP-DCD (vSphere 5) certification desirable
- Experience with IBM x-series Servers desirable
Professional Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English is essential.
- Able and willing to quickly learn the operational processes and procedures currently in place to support a mission critical production environment.
- Ability to organise and structure their daily work independently while working alongside the others teams and providing regular reports to line management.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and team working skills and the ability to interact with multiple levels of personnel both within the organization and externally.
- Collaborate with other team members and external groups
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
Additional Requirements:
This position is a daytime position but will require flexibility to perform system maintenance during evenings and weekends plus ad hoc on call arrangements.
