The Client

Our client is one of Australia's leading and largest Financial Services Organization that has expanded its operations beyond the Australian shores. The organization has a large range of financial offerings to both public and private clients across the retail, corporate and institutional banking areas. They have a very large technical footprint that combine a dynamic range of technologies in an ultimate complex landscape.

The Team

The performance team has a very large remit, to evaluate and improve bank wide systems with a focus on high availability, performance, and reliability. This team has been organically grown over the last 18 months and now, due to their excellent success record of improvements, they have been given a wide remit and larger projects. The role is a highly technical capacity management position where you are responsible for analysis of extremely large application systems and work with the business to project future usage. From there, you will be required to design robust solutions to future-proof their complex financial systems.

The Role

Currently this team is working on increasing the performance and capacity of online portals across the various divisions within the organization. To be successful in this role you'll ideally have a background in working with mission critical systems as either a developer, systems engineer/administrator, or networking professional. Ideally, you'll have experience with all three. You must also have an appreciation and demonstrated understanding of how the application layer relates to networking and infrastructure layers.

You will have strong experience with Back End, Server Side development and applications. There will be some hands-on development and configuration work, but the role is more of a higher level/architecture/solutions role with a broader remit, looking at the bigger picture to help identify bottlenecks, recommend solutions, streamline, tweak and advise on longer term capacity needs. You must have experience with complex, high volume web portals and applications. Ideally, if you have experience in Telco, Gaming, Media, High Frequency Trading, eBanking/eCommerce, and Distributed Systems, you will be at an advantage.

Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating bank wide systems across multiple technologies.
  • Scope solution design and ensure fit for purpose on the metrics of traceability/availability.
  • Perform complex technical capacity planning that evaluates for project changes, demand fluctuations and growth.
  • Identify non-functional risks commensurate with design and manage to closure.
  • Provide technical requirements documents/guidelines for operational monitoring.
  • Create non-functional test cases (performance, load etc ) to mitigate risks.
  • Provide recommendations to business for further investment in capacity.

Skills required:

  • Strong background in Development/Design (C#, .NET ideally) and/or Systems Administration (Windows/Linux/Unix) - Ideally exposure to both.
  • An understanding of how the application layer relies on the Network/Infra layers.
  • Experience performance tuning large, complex web portals and/or Back End systems - experience in Telco, Gaming/Betting, Trading Systems would be advantageous.
  • Strong experience with Capacity and Performance managing of large scale technology systems.
  • Strong Holistic Technical Background spanning a multiple disciplines.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience working with Solution designers/Architects.
  • Previous experience with Windows .NET Servers, Biztalk, Oracle or SQL Server (Desirable).
