Description

O’Kelly Design is looking for (a) talented developer(s) who can become part of the team through ongoing project-based work. The work will mostly comprise front-end coding as well as CMS setup and integration. A current project also requires some server-side (PHP and .Net) coding, so developers with proven experience in that area would be at a particular advantage.

It is important that you work as a full-time freelancer or independent company, rather than coding on the side (of a salaried position somewhere), as I need someone who can work consistently alongside the design team to meet mutually agreed upon deadlines.

The chosen developer will have  experience with:

  • At least 4 years professionally hand-coding high-end standards-compliant websites
  • HTML, HTML5, Advanced CSS, Javascript
  • Developing on various CMSs (primarily PyroCMS, Expression Engine, Drupal)
  • Coding for responsive layouts
  • Server-side scripting such as PHP, .Net, Java etc
  • Coding to the latest SEO and accessibility standards
  • Bonus points go those with capabilities for working with MySQL, AJAX/JSON, CSS3, LAMP administration
  • Living in New York ideally, other parts of the USA acceptable for right candidate. No applicants from a greater than 1 hour time difference (to EST) please.

The work process will be collaborative. I will be relying on the chosen developer for expertise and input for interesting techniques or coding possibilities, or alternate ways to present information and content. As such, the successful candidate should demonstrate both the capacity and desire to learn and experiment with new techniques and possibilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are thus also beneficial.

I need someone who can take initiative and be proactive and ‘helpful’ to me, anticipating issues in advance and working with me to solve them ahead of time. It is also important that you take pride in your work, stiving for pixel-perfect, correctly functioning, and bug-free code every time.

Lastly, and most importantly, I need someone who will reliably meet agreed upon deadlines.

This role will involve varied and ongoing work for the successful candidate and I have a number of website projects on the books at any given time. I would project about one site every month or so, with an average of 24–40 hours for smaller sites, and 100–150(+) hours on larger projects. You can learn about me and the practice on my site—particularly look through the portfolio of previous work to get a good sense of the type of sites I usually design and create. Having done so, if you feel that you can comfortably develop sites like those, then send me your details!

I look forward to hearing from you, and thanks for taking the time to read this far!
