Calling all qualified English specialists! Due to maternity leave, the Head Teacher of this modern Academy in South Gloucestershire wished to appoint a qualified Teacher of English with the ability and experience to teach across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. This is a Full Time, temporary contract to cover a Maternity leave until April 2014 or the current post-holders return if earlier.
This is a smaller than the average school with just over 800 pupils on roll. The number of pupils attending the sixth form is over 120 and rising. The proportion of students eligible for free school meals is below the national average and percentage of pupils with special educational needs is significantly lower than found nationally.
Last year, the school achieved a significant improvement on its previous years exam results with nearly 80% of students achieving 5A*-C grades. Results for core subjects are below the national average but consistently improving.
The school is located within a short commute of Bristol and has recently been extensively modernised resulting in state of the art facilities. These include a variety of purpose built, specialist classrooms, a superb new sports hall and all weather pitch, specialised ICT suites and a recording studio. The English Department delivers a balanced curriculum with a strong focus on equipping students with the ability to work independently.
You will be a qualified, dynamic and high-achieving Teacher of English, able to demonstrate a strong track record of academic achievement and raising standards. You will be required to teach across the age and ability range with the possibility of some KS5 teaching.
