Function/Team/Location

This role leads the Finance Business Partnering relationship across a number of Service Towers managing IS/IT 'Run' service delivery and operating cost budgets.

The Service Towers are responsible for IS service management within AstraZeneca, employing c250 people globally, managing a number of key outsourced service relationships, and accountable for an annual IS operating budget of $0.6bn.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, the Finance Business Partner will be expected to provide input, strategic thinking, continuous improvement and leadership to the wider finance team as necessary.

Candidate Focus & Challenge

Decision Support

  • Working proactively with the business to understand future financial information needs and producing efficient solutions to meet these needs (Operating budget achievement, Business Case Development, Risks and Opportunities etc);
  • Assessing the relevant input required to lead others during difficult decisions;
  • Bringing transparency to the cost base and the drivers of value for decision making;
  • Negotiating and communicating effectively across teams, business units, and external parties to achieve favourable outcomes;
  • Being actively involved in review and development of short & long-term strategy and business transformation;

Business decisions to be supported, material in both value and impact, would include:

  • Strategic programmes;
  • Investment propositions (including revenue & capital programmes);
  • Commercial and/or Procurement decisions;

Business Performance

Business Performance expectations will include:

  • Having joint accountability with the business for the accuracy and achievement of forecasts;
  • Driving efficiencies through an understanding of the business services and financial drivers of cost and value;
  • Leading forecast updates, highlighting sensitivities & risks, and delivering regular commentary of tower performance - linking business drivers to actual spend and forecast;
  • Working closely with tower service managers to model and plan for changing demand;
  • Preparing and delivering all presentations for key finance review meetings with the Tower leadership team, Senior Finance Business Partner and Heads of 'Run' Services.

Continuous Improvement, Governance and Coaching

  • To initiate changes to improve working practices and processes and drive financial rigour;
  • To communicate risk management processes and procedures, governance and compliance standards and statutory regulations to non-finance specialists in a way that is understandable and relevant and relays the risk of commercial decisions effectively;
  • To ensure the organisation's regulations, rules and processes are adhered to, highlighting areas of concern and promoting continuous improvement in the robustness of the processes, sharing best practice across the business;
  • To develop the financial understanding of non-finance managers.

Candidate Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified finance professional with significant post qualified experience (or equivalent);
  • Career progression that includes roles supporting different functional areas on major decisions with key stakeholders;
  • Successful business partnering experience along with cross boundary experience;
  • Experience working in a global, Matrix organisation;
  • Experience of working alongside teams with a demonstrable track record of motivational and achievement oriented leadership including strong coaching;
  • Experience of working with third party suppliers and have strong network and consulting skills;
  • Proficient in planning and problem solving and able to resolve issues of a highly complex and strategic nature;
  • Ability to think strategically and beyond the impacts of finance identifying both risks and opportunities;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the confidence to express clear opinions and ability to explain financial issues to non-financial management;
  • Desirable: experienced Change Agent with knowledge of Lean methodologies
