Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer

To ensure compliant delivery of Process and Packaged Equipment (P&PE) assets for the discipline of Controls & Instrumentation. The post holder will act as the client technical representative for C&I for a number of P&PE commissionable systems as directed, interfacing with both an external design house and external equipment suppliers. The post holder will report to the client Engineering Manager and will be responsible for articulating the technical scope of the C&I design to the contractor and the subsequent technical contract management of that scope. The post holder will also report technically (Matrix management) to the Lead C&I Engineer to ensure consistency within the C&I function of the project.

Key accountabilities

Provide technical guidance to the project delivery teams. Provide internal engineering design and consultancy capability within appointed discipline. Ensure maintenance of appointed discipline standards. Ensure investigation of designs for compliance including all legal regulatory requirements. Ensure RLI of Quality of Engineering in discipline and compliance with the Project Book and Project Processes. Ensure the preparation and delivery of design solutions which fully comply with all applicable current legislation, British Standards and facility Design Standards to agreed time, cost and quality requirements. Ensure compliance in all activities undertaken, with company safety, quality, environmental, security and health requirements. Provide appropriate education and training with respect to engineering guides and standards to more junior C&I engineers and the wider project delivery team. Provide leadership to more junior C&I engineers as appropriate to the delegated roles.

Responsibilities

Applying the requirements EPIC Roadmap for Major Projects to all C&I Engineering design activities, and ensuring the delivery of compliant design documentation. Provide guidance to the supply chain under the direction of the Lead C&I Engineer to ensure compliance with all relevant standards and the project interface schedule. Development of the supporting detail for the Design Configuration Plan, Project Interface Schedule and Design Programme. Assisting the Engineering Manager with design reviews. To deliver C&I Engineering designs which comply with the requirements of the facility Design Safety Principles. To ensure that the nuclear safety standards demanded by the site license requirements are met in the delivery of the C&I Engineering designs. Ensuring that the C&I Engineering design is compatible with the safety case. Identification, documentation and management of all C&I Engineering design team interfaces. Undertake the Value Engineering of all C&I Engineering design aspects. Assist the Lead C&I Engineer in the co-ordination of C&I Engineering design information/activities and the resolution of C&I Engineering design issue conflicts. Participate, as required, in the Design Change Management process

Qualifications

Degree in an Engineering discipline appropriate to the role. Chartered Engineer. Member of an appropriate professional Engineering Institute.

Knowledge

Undertaking and over-viewing engineering design, installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements of a regulated site. Good understanding of the overall design philosophy and life cycle from Concept through to decommissioning.

  • Comprehensive experience with a good overall depth and breadth across the project life cycle
  • Covering all the key elements in the Controls and Instrumentation.
  • Experience working in the nuclear industry.
  • Experience of obtaining formal acceptance of design output. Experience of C&I Engineering construction/installation techniques and practices.
  • Experience of team leadership/supervision.

Special Requirements

  • There will be a requirement to spend at least 50% of the working month in France
