Opportunity

We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Senior Database Administrator to join The Bradford Group’s Information Technology team! This individual will participate in the design, development and implementation of complex databases, often using new technologies. This person will serve as the subject matter expert for the team. They will manage multiple, moderately complex projects and direct activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations. This individual should be able to work under minimal supervision, with general guidance from their manager. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
In addition, they will administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company's DB2 databases on both midrange (Unix/Linux) environments. They will also implement data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes; resolves database performance issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. Should be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures and experience working in a PCI compliant company is a plus.


Responsibilities:
• Works as part of a project team to design and develop database solutions, including enforcing logical design best practices; table design; index design, database sizing; user and security setup; SQL scripting; Unix shell scripting
• Responsible for interfacing with technical and business staff, providing detailed work estimates, time management, and raising updating the appropriate parties with any issues
• Responsible for all of our production and non-production databases
• Pro-actively coordinate and setup regular maintenance activities, set up monitoring jobs, adjust the setup/configuration of the database as required
• Troubleshoot any issues that arise in the day to day operations of multiple databases
• Create and maintain database objects in DB2 such as tables, indexes, aliases, views, stored procedures
• Build and configure database instances including database security and disaster recovery
• Design and implement backup and recovery solutions
• Handle performance tuning of instance, database, and SQL queries
• Design and administer table portioning, compression and/or HADR replication
• Find bottlenecks in AIX/Linux server performance pertaining to database scope
• Install and setup partitioned databases in AIX environment
• Work with the groups to determine how system changes and upgrades will impact existing and new systems
• Monitor, maintain, install and test new releases, upgrades and patches
• Work in both a production and support environment role with regular interaction with the development and support teams to understand database requirements and support needs

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 8+ years of DBA experience in DB2 midrange environment
• DB2 Data Partition Feature (DPF) experience in a multi-partition database environment
• Experience with backup and recovery strategies in a multi-partition environment
• Experience with performance monitoring using IBM tools and snapshot utilities
• Troubleshooting experience using IBM tools and snapshot utilities
• Experience with table space management in a multi-partition environment
• Significant experience in SQL tuning and database design
• Experience with midrange tools: CRON, vmstat, topas, etc.
• Expertise with HADR, DPF
• Expertise in writing shell scripts and debugging existing scripts
• Expertise in OS and SAN storage concepts and Export, Import, Load, db2move, runstats, reorg, inspect, explain procedures in DB2
• Expertise in migration of DB2 database from AIX to Linux
• Proactive, with a strong attention to detail
