The Instructional Designer will be working on a project that includes the development and maintenance of training materials for Outside Plant Construction and Engineering. Work may include, but is not limited to, the creation of new training materials in various formats; the provision of updates to and conversions of existing course materials for delivery over different platforms; and/or the creation of new leader-led course materials for both face-to-face and virtual classroom delivery methods.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of technical training, for both management and non-management employees, selecting and using appropriate Instructional Design methodologies.
  • Conducts pre-design analysis to produce step level descriptions or flow charts of job tasks.
  • Develops course material in Leader-Led, web-based and/or blended formats.
  • Works with SMEs and other design team members as necessary.
  • Produces curriculum, course, module plans and storyboards for the development of both paper-based and multi-media training materials, including simulations, graphics, and video.
  • Follows through with the development of the training materials in any of those formats.
  • Conducts developmental testing, validation, and usability testing to ensure the effectiveness of training materials and training interventions. May be called upon to troubleshoot programming behind web-based training modules.
  • Develops and maintains products using mechanized support tools including desktop publishing, spreadsheets, presentation packages, database management, website authoring, "help file" authoring, graphics packages, and office management systems.
  • Conducts pilot sessions and facilitating alternative delivery methods

SKILLS

Must have experience in Instructional Design and Web-based training development. Knowledge of Microsoft Word is required. Knowledge of Video Editing, Flash, Photoshop, Captivate, PowerPoint, Info Mapping/DocuTools, and Project Management all highly-desired.
