Governance and Risk Manager - PPI - Complaints Processes - Operational Risk - Governance & Audit

Purpose of the role

A management position responsible for ensuring effective oversight of governance and control across Consumer Affairs. This includes supporting risk assessment and performing assurance of controls using defined Group frameworks, and responsibility for overseeing key internal/external governance commitments eg Audit and Compliance Reviews, FSA letters and E&Y conformance reviews

The role holder will be responsible for partnering stakeholders internal to the business and maintain a risk and control aware culture.

Core Skills

  • Support delivery and ownership of audit/conformance action plans within the business and overseeing the timely delivery of these plans.
  • Act as the day contact point for the business area(s) supported in matters relating to Quality Assurance (control effectiveness)  risk identification, corporate governance, assessment and control - assist the business with the development and maintenance of adequate process and control documentation through the deployment and independent assurance of key controls.
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant Group related policies across business areas - including undertaking schedule of designated assurance activities for areas under responsibility
  • Work with allocated change initiatives to assess any impact upon the risk and control profile and ensure key decision points are made in line with business limits of authority.
  • Undertake planned and ad-hoc requests on behalf of the Senior Governance and Control Manager to deliver control and governance improvements across Consumer Affairs.
  • Support the provision of robust and effective reporting & analysis to provide assurance to senior management that business is compliant with the defined governance framework (with effective escalation of issues as appropriate)
  • Performance against Consumer Affairs balanced scorecard objectives
  • Performance against quality and productivity targets - timeliness and quality of assurance reviews and risk based conclusions
  • Feedback from key Stakeholders across the business
  • Achievement of personal goals agreed with line manager

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in management roles within a risk, compliance or an oversight type role with experience of risk and control assessment
  • Experience of working in one or more retail banking business units 
  • Significant experience in undertaking and developing robust control environments 
  • Successful senior stakeholder management - internal & external - particularly across channels and stakeholders sets eg Compliance/Risk/BIA
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of control frameworks and the components of identification, assessment and control
  • Detailed knowledge of Corporate Governance, including Regulated practices and compliance requirements
  • PC literate - Microsoft Office suite
  • Broad understanding of retail banking strategy and operational plans
  • A working knowledge of Group practice and procedures
  • Ability to develop interfaces and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders at Senior Manager/SME/BIA/Compliance level.
  • Communication and presentation skills to deliver effective interaction with individuals and teams ranging from front-line staff up to senior level .
  • Creative and strategic thinking in order to drive results
  • Innovative Business change and implementation with customer focus in line with internal guidelines
