Hello, I run a 3 old e-commerce site. We sell commodity industrial equipment, nothing special, but we do have good pricing are doing relatively well.
The store runs on Magento and is adequate, but the original design is not well thought out, and I don't feel it provides a solid foundation for the future. There are so many things we need to do in order to takle things to the next level, but before I do any of it I would like to take care of home.
Budget is a factor. Were it not I would gladly hire the best UX I could find to overhaul the site. In fact I have contacted some good ones, but the cost has been way out of my league, so this is plan B.
I would like to take an existing Magento theme, one that is proven to be well developed, fast, with a good UX backbone, and modify it for my business.
The modifications will be significant, so I am definitely looking for someone who has a strong UX background and can make smart, well considered decisions, based not only on experience but also based on my analytics data. There will also be UI changes so the person should also be comfortable with design.
The theme is very good but it only covers stock magento/ecommerce functions. A lot will need to be added. Features are detailed below. I can't afford to pay the best to design my site from scratch, but I really hope to find someone who can do a great job with this theme and really provide me a great foundation upon which I can build my business.
SOME OF THE FEATURES THAT WILL BE ADDED
Search First Approach:
Search engine will be a central part of the new design. This is not the case with the theme. So not only will search field need to be enhanced and integrated differently, but new search results pages, notifications, error messages will need to be created.
Mini Tablet friendly
In the interest of keeping this job tight and focused. The theme I am leaning towards is not responsive. As a result, some of the navigational elements need to be made a touch more finger friendly. If you have experience designing responsive sites, I'm definitely listening.
Layered Menu Change
The layered menu used in the template is much like stock Magento, which isn't great. This will need to redesigned as a checkbox based layered menu that is more intuitive while also being designed for mouse and touch.
Articles/Blog/
Will need to add a blog/articles section that integrates well with the site. OIt should not just be a separate isolated section, like I often see. If a user is on a product that has relevant articles from the blog, then the product page should reference them in a way that is helpful.
