Description

A contract deign role exists has become available for a market leading medical device and pharmaceutical company in the Cambridge area. The company deals in global drug delivery devices and engage in projects across all business units and therapy areas within the global network. A core activity within device development is the design of clear user instructions and training materials in the form of printed 2D graphics. User documentation now comes under the scrutiny of Regulators and the effectiveness of such documentation is no longer optional. Testing of user instructions in the hands of users is a mandatory process to enable optimisation, and the success of instruction design is key to being able to launch the companies portfolio of drug products.

The requirement is for a full time, office-based graphic or instructional designer to take on user instruction design amongst many other diverse graphic design activities for internal and external projects. The specific requirements for the role are as follows:
Core role requirements
  • Excellent document design ability with keen eye for layout and content appropriateness.
  • Strong ability to develop User Instructions / training materials. (i.e. Ability to understand and interrogate a process then reduce it to clear, precise and informative steps - and create attractive, readable, and navigable documents)
  • Flair for creating graphic concepts and exploratory graphical styles.
  • Comfortable in taking a concept sketch all the way through to implementation (print-ready).
  • Able to work within design constraints but recognise where areas of design freedom exist and exploit them.
  • Strong attention to detail in graphical, typographical and copy.
  • Excellent written English skills.

General requirements
  • Creative thinker with a willingness to take direction and work briefs through to finished proposals.
  • Capability to adhere to strict deadlines and prioritise work load under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own and use initiative where required, or as part of a team.

Skills and Experience
  • Highly proficient in vector and bitmap graphical packages (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop)
  • Proficient in Adobe Indesign
  • Good IT skills essential - PC literate (rather than Macintosh) with good experience with typical Microsoft Office applications including MS PowerPoint
  • Minimum one year relevant experience

Desirable but not essential skills /experience
  • Photography
  • CAD rendering
  • Movie making / editing
