Experienced Engineer required ASAP - Enterprise Planning and Infrastructure - Structures Flooding and Coastal Engineering - Contract - Aberdeen

Job purpose

*Assist with managing, inspecting, maintaining and improving stock of bridges and other road structures in accordance with statutory requirements.
*Assist with the provision of a structural/civil engineering consultancy service.
*Assist with the Clients Flood Risk Management Duties

Key Tasks

*Leading a team of professional and technical staff working on the projects allocated to the post in particular flood risk management projects.
*Carry out Inspections, Surveys and Technical Assessments in accordance with the codes of practice and design standards for the management of public roads and other assets within the clients responsibility.
*Arrange for and attend consultations with other authorities, professional bodies and representatives of road users and affected individuals.
*Carry out design of civil and structural schemes as required (including feasibility, option appraisal and preliminary design), contract estimating, contract preparation, contract administration and site supervision.
*Prepare Reports and other communications as required for Clients, Elected Members and other bodies representing road and transport users.
*Manage Quality Systems, Data Handling and Record Storage Systems and Information Systems to facilitate effective service delivery.

Key Deliverables

*Deliver work on time and to budget in accordance with Quality Management and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
*Arrange for and implement programmes of routine and special inspections of roads, bridges, retaining walls, coast protection, flood prevention and drainage systems, having regard to statutory requirements, safety of users and protection of the Client organisation from public liability. Make recommendations for works required as a result of these programmes.
*Arrange meetings with the Police, Public Utilities, Developers and Builders, Public Transport Operators, other professional bodies, groups representing road users, those affected by schemes, Elected Members and the public as necessary. Attend and Minute such meetings and develop or modify proposals based on matters discussed or arising.
*Carry out preliminary and detailed design work (including drawings, cost estimates and contract documentation) in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and related European and British Standards and Codes of Practice. Administer such contracts and supervise construction work.
*Consider applications in terms of relevant legislation from developers for new roads or alterations to existing roads required as a result of the Developer's proposals.
*Have a knowledge of the increasing role of Spreadsheets, Databases, CAD, GIS, GPS, Internet and other developing technologies have to play in the gathering, storage, analysis, use and presentation of data relating to government in general and infrastructure schemes in particular.
*Be aware of the scope and position of the particular service in which the post is located and be prepared to represent the service to safeguard its interests at the operational and managerial level.
