UNIX PLATFORM ENGINEER - Scandinavian Speaker
Scandinavian Speaking Unix Platform Engineer sought for a 7 Months contract opportunity based in Copenhagen/Denmark.This is an opportunity within the Banking/Finance Sector.
As a Unix Platform Engineer you will:
- Work with the Project Engineering to design multi-site platform solutions to run systems and services that fulfil business requirements.
- Participate in the design and review of Linux/Unix based systems and application deployments in both a hardware and software capacity.
- Recommend and Manage the implementation of modifications to Linux/Unix in order to improve efficiency, reliability, availability and performance.
- Assist with the definition of processes for ongoing support and maintenance, including: Operating System upgrades, hot fixes, system updates and vendor supplied patches, according to best practices.
- Produce high level and low level design schematics and documentation.
- Provide ongoing expertise in maintenance and improvement of server provisioning practices and processes.
- Assist with the improvement of infrastructure monitoring and reporting.
The ideal Unix Platform Engineer should have the following skill set:
- Understanding of IT infrastructure and applications.
- 5+ Years of experience with UNIX (Solaris and Linux RHEL/Suse) and other core system tools such as NIS, LDAP, DNS and NFS.
- Experience in designing and delivering highly available services built on Red Hat Linux and Solaris.
- Experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to analyse complex problems.
- Very strong documentation.
- Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills English and a Scandinavian language (Danish, Swedish or Norwegian).
- Additionally, any of the following skills would be considered an asset: Solaris 11, LDAP, LDOMS, Oracle OpsCenter, Building RPM packages, Veritas products like VCS, VxVM, VxFS., ITIL certification, Shell and Perl Scripting.
