The New York Times is seeking a curious, creative and passionate iOS developer to join a new team dedicated to creating mobile and web applications to deliver our journalism.

You’ll be a part of a small multidisciplinary team rapidly prototyping, launching and scaling new products for multiple platforms. As one of the first hires, you’ll have the opportunity to drive the architecture and own large pieces of the application.

The successful candidate must be experienced with Objective-C and be able to develop a native iOS application through its entire lifecycle. Also critical is an attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, pride in the quality of one's work and the ability to meet deadlines. Experience programming in frameworks such as Ruby on Rails and client-side web technologies including javascript, CSS and HTML is a strong plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of architecting and developing unique mobile-first experiences
  • Work as part of a small, cross-functional team including product, design and the newsroom to create a best in class iOS app
  • Push the envelope for state of the art mobile applications and development practices


  • Requirements:

  • Expert-level understanding of developing, benchmarking and testing iOS applications.
  • Experience writing fault-tolerant code that integrate with external APIs
  • A strong interest in improving the way we deliver our journalism to readers
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
