Electrical Design Engineer required by leading Aerospace company for an initial 6 month contract based in Cheltenham.

As Electrical Design Engineer you will carry out the design of electrical wiring and products for civil & military aerospace applications, in the fields of display systems, power control and aircraft utilities management

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To design the electrical aspects of products including wiring & bus bars, thermal management, manufacturability and electrical safety under the direction of a team leader
  • To integrate & verify electrical products & systems
  • To support products through environmental and EMC qualification.
  • To lead and coach junior engineers.
  • To diagnose and fix design problems in existing and new products.
  • To help prepare the technical content of new product proposals.
  • To prepare for and participate in design reviews.
  • To provide technical advice within the department and to customers.
  • Specification and selection of Electro-mechanical components, including supplier technical Liaison
  • To work according to company and industry standards and design processes

Key Drivers

  • A willingness to carry out military design is essential, as isUK security clearance.
  • Availability for international travel to visit and support customers.
  • The applicant should be able to work efficiently with other departments such as systems, software & manufacturing.

Skills and Competencies:
Required

  • Significant experience of electrical design and power distribution of AC and/or DC systems (AC systems up to 100KVA)
  • Electrical design of wiring, relays, contactors, circuit breakers and electrical panels.
  • Technical problem solving and diagnosis skills
  • Used to working within a recognised quality system
  • Able to clearly formulate and communicate complex design concepts.
  • Willing to participate in military product design.
  • Having the organisational skills to deliver to budget and schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willing to occasionally travel internationally.
  • The confidence, flexibility and risk management skills to develop new approaches and solutions
  • Ability to interface directly with customers

Desirable

  • Aerospace power distribution experience
  • Technical proposal writing
  • Dealing with Outsource suppliers and subcontractors
  • Awareness of aerospace wiring practice.
  • Power distribution, switching and control
  • Knowledge of Solid state power switching systems
