Description
The European Division of one of my clients in the Electronics and Systems Integration Division (E&SI) designs, develops and delivers electrical and electronic control systems for engines and machines developed and produced in Europe. The Compact Engine Controls Team is part of the European division and is responsible for development of engine control strategy for engines. This involves requirements capture, control strategy development, model based software development and software verification / validation. It engages with other software teams to utilise shared software development and testing resources. It leverages common tools, processes, software and system solutions with the other engine platforms. The team also provides test support to local customers and provides the primary software and controls technical interface to the internal process partner teams.
The team works on key engine projects to meet global emissions regulations using new engine and after treatment technology. This includes machine, industrial and marine applications from 56kW to
16MW.
Key Responsibilities
Create test plans to verify software functionality. Test plans to be derived by inspection of written specification documents, Simulink software models and discussion with control engineers. Write test plans to agree standard to for re-use and readability Convert test plans to run as automated test using python scripts and dSPACE Automation-
Desk
Create automated process to analyse test plan data in real time or by post processing to check against criteria agreed with control engineers. Manage the execution of test plans and tracking of work / result status.
Report test results to control engineers and team / project leader.
Carry out ad-hoc testing and analysis to investigate reported issues to confirm problems and identify root causes. Configuration and troubleshooting of dSPACE systems to ensure availability of test equipment and modification to support alternative control system hardware configurations.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
Calibration Tools
Able to use electronic system calibration tools, ideally Vector CANape, to record data and alter controller parameters and analyse system behaviour.
Matlab
Able to create matlab script to process test result data to check conformance with agreed criteria and create written and graphical reports.
Simulink
Able to interpret model function using Simulink and use a basis to create test plans
HiL Testing
Experience of dSPACE HiL testers and ability to programme automated tests and reporting.
Good spoken and written English and ability to make clear written and verbal reports
Desirable
Understanding of engine control related aspects of engine subsystems such as fuel injection
(common rail), air system (turbo-charging and EGR), after treatment (DPF and SCR).
Understanding of control system hardware such as controllers, sensors and actuators.
Understanding of requirements for heavy duty engine applications for non-road mobile and
non-mobile machines.
Understanding of J1939 data link protocols
Experience of software processes and tools
Able to create plant models of engine sub-systems to use for real-time closed loop feed back
on dSPACE systems using Simulink.
Experience of using Clearcase for document version control.
Qualifications:
Degree in Software, Electronics/Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
GCSE English Language
