Systems Engineer (Rail) - Derbyshire - £30-35 per hour

As a Functional Integration Systems Engineer, you will join the Systems Engineering team as a specialist in the functional aspects of the integrated train design.

This includes the use of multiple disciplines such as Ordinary Train Control (e.g. relay logic), TCMS (software based data bus system) and third party procured systems such as Propulsion, Battery, Doors, Brakes, Signalling, Smoke detection, Train Data Recorder, Lighting, De-icing system and TCMS (including diagnostics).

You will be responsible for ensuring that the functional design of the integrated train (from its sub systems) meets the customer requirements and legislative standards.

In addition, you will be managing the design of electrical schematics, including the design of relay logic and managing electrical interfaces with supplier's equipment via the appropriate system engineer.

Liaising effectively with the other engineering disciplines including project engineers, TCMS engineers and system engineers throughout the project lifecycle (bid concept to detailed design phase, manufacture and service operation) is also a key aspect of the role.

Furthermore, you will ensure the train wide functional design is optimal. This shall be done taking into account aspects such as Cost (Life Cycle Cost), Lowest parts count, Manufacturability, Maintenance, Service Reliability and Safety.

Finally, you will be responsible for planning, managing and reporting on the areas of work for which responsibility is held.

Requirements for the role include:

- Engineering University degree;
- In depth knowledge of train systems (hardware and software) and their interaction with each other;
- Demonstrable technical leadership skills in the overall design of train wide functions;
- Technical expertise in optimising design solution for our trains is desired;
- Good interpersonal and problem solving skills.
