I am currently looking for a Naval Architect to work in Tyneside on a 6 month contract.

Role Description:

Naval Architects can expect to be involved in a wide range of tasks including, depending on their expertise:
Development of vessel arrangements.
Determination of hydrostatic and hydrodynamic characteristics of vessels.
Design and analysis of ship structures including:
Scantling calculations to Classification Society Rules
Longitudinal strength analysis

Intact & Damage Stability analysis for Commercial well as development of loading conditions for new build vessels.
Stability assessment of craft subject to significant modification
Development, review and approval of outfitting, fire protection and safety arrangements.

Qualifications:

Degree Qualified in Naval Architecture or similar*
Ideally Chartered Engineer registered with Engineering Council and Relevant Institute is desirable.

Experience:

Experience is required across the design spectrum, ranging from concept development through classification and regulatory approval to detailed design and production definition, in the Marine and Offshore sectors. Hands-on involvement in design activities and the ability to provide technical guidance at all levels in the solution of a variety of complex design problems are essential.

The ability to communicate effectively, particularly in writing, is also important.

Successful candidates will have spent time in the Shipbuilding or Offshore design environments and have undergone relevant practical training.

Knowledge of specialist offshore vessels - pipelayer's, drill ships, flotel's, FPSO's - would be advantageous.

Sound knowledge of appropriate design codes including:
Classification Society Rules (Lloyd's Register, DNV, ABS)
AISC
API
UK HSE
SOLAS
MARPOL
COLREG
LOAD LINE

Proficiency with appropriate software including:
STAAD Pro
ASAS
Nauticus
Mathcad
Tribon
Paramarine
AutoCAD

Personnel attributes:

Able to work on their own initiative with good problem solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to deal with multiple issues, tasks and priorities concurrently.
Computer literate and adaptable to the introduction of new software as appropriate.
Adaptable and able to work with a wide variety of ship systems and equipment.
Take Ownership and adopt a lead Engineer's role in specific operations appropriate to their area and drive key requirements through liaison with stakeholders.
