ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform as a Service Activation Technician 1. The Service Activation Technician 1 job includes:

  • Staff the inbound call queue and field calls from outside field technicians to resolve issues as needed, quickly locate information within support systems, and retain the ability to communicate/assign installations effectively to appropriate technicians or call queues that are pre-determined by management.

  • Perform basic to moderately complex installations as related to Voice, Data and Transport to support all of client products and access types for both Nationwide and Legacy networks. (This includes Internet circuits, Integrated Voice/Data T1s, MPLS, SIP, and VoMPLS services on variable access types and CPE makes/models, terminating to a wide array of network devices and Switches)

  • Troubleshoot installation's that run into simple to moderately complex complications as related to Layers 1, 2 & 3 voice and data services.

  • Isolate circuit trouble and open carrier trouble tickets relating to Layer2 circuit complications during installation.

  • Work in an On-Call rotation for work required outside of regular business hours.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent and an Associates Degree in Electronics or related field and a minimum of 1 to 2 years related telecommunication experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge of and certification on varies switching, transport, and IP/Ethernet equipment. CCNA or equivalent preferred.

  • Knowledge of data networking, including: TCP/IP, UDP/IP, ICMP, DNS, ARP, ATM, Frame Relay, VPN, routing, bridging, and switching

  • Knowledge of voice products, PSTN architectures, and associated equipment. (TDM circuitry, Class5 switching, number portability, PRI, VoIP, 911, 800 services, voicemail, common termination types, and voice calling features)

  • Ability to proficiently apply logical troubleshooting procedures to network services, top down. This requires the ability to manage through logical fault isolation throughout the network, to include network equip. carrier circuitry, CPE, customer wiring, and customer hardware and software applications.

  • Understanding of T1 and DSL loop technology, relative makeup, common applications, circuit composition, installation/repair process, and fault isolation procedures.
