Our client located in Olmsted Falls, OH is currently hiring a Senior Network Engineer for a 6 month contract. 

Cisco experience is required.

The Sr. Network Engineer is accountable for the overall stability and performance of the company network by analysing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and optimizing network hardware, software and communication links, ultimately ensuring high levels of data quality and availability. He/she will diagnose, resolve, and document network problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and support when required. The person will also assist the operational staff with backup and recovery processes and help resolve a wide range of technical customer issues.


Essential Functions

  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user Workstation hardware, software, networked peripheral devices, cabling, and networking hardware and software products.
  • Provide 24 x 7 x 365 network support, including responding to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding network connectivity problems. Work closely with various IT teams, business areas and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve a range of network related issues.
  • Specify and maintain security solutions, including Firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Specify and maintain all network hardware and equipment, including Routers & Switches.
  • Design and implement systems to monitor and test network performance and provide network performance reports.
  • Perform on-site analyze, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repair.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Provide ongoing tactical and strategic input for network planning and related projects.
  • Design, implement and support networking projects and new technology installations.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend for purchase networking hardware and software products.
  • Write technical specifications for purchase of networking hardware products.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of contract-based network installations.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network inventory.
  • Prepare, maintain, and adhere to procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring network data.
  • Liaise with, and provide training and support to, helpdesk support staff on network issues.
  • Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for network installations, including data, voice, and video systems.
  • Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and maintain current knowledge of plan executables. Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

Skills & Abilities

  • Experience: 5+ years related experience in IT engineering.

Computer Skills:

  • Advanced Cisco skills (Catalyst/Nexus/ASR)
  • Working technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, especially Windows 7.
  • Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, and testers.
  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) preferred.
