My client is a leading online company. They are looking for a replacement for their long term engineer who has moved on to bigger and better things. They are happy to take on a new bright spark with 2 years linux experience or a seasoned engineer. You just need to have production environment, 24X7 experience.
Mid-level candidate skills and experience:
- 2 years Linux (Redhat) experience
- Some production/ 24X7 environment experience
- Some experience working on the application Layer (Apache, bind, Tomcat)
- Scripting skills
You can expect lots of training and development with this position. In your first 6 months you will get support in getting up to speed with their environment and languages (moving towards Ruby and Python). You will also get the opportunity to take on self contained projects. After 6 months you will start taking ownership of projects and you will be allowed to pay special attention to areas of interest.
Senior candidate skills and experience:
- Must have experience working in a 24X7 production environment
- Several years Linux (Redhat) administration experience
- Working at application layer, including apache, bind, tomcat
- Perl, Python, Shell, PHP, Ruby or other scripting language
One or more of these:
- Networking
- Database
- Virtualisation
- Configuration management software
- OS deployment
You will ensure the 24x7x365 operation is up and running. You will work closely with the development and quality assurance teams. It will be your responsibility to take their products live and ensure they are up and running correctly. You will also get the time to continue your professional growth and get involved in projects with the technologies you are most interested in.
Essentially, you need to have an intuitive understanding of technology. You must be a self-starter with a desire to learn. You must always be striving to think of new, clever ways to make things work and make your life that little bit easier.
