The Balboa Park Online Collaborative (BPOC) is seeking an experienced Website System Administrator to join our fast-paced, deadline-oriented team, which supports a wide range of non-profit clients. The ideal candidate should be a dynamic, proactive individual with strong communications skills and a team player. BPOC is a nonprofit organization that strives to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration among non-profit organizations through technology. BPOC provides thought leadership and technical services to more than 27 museums and cultural organizations with a focus on providing cost-effective innovative solutions, delivering exceptional customer service, and creating a reliable infrastructure that demonstrates value to our clients. Our clients range from small non-profit organizations of a staff of one to a large organization with over 100 staff and volunteers.
The Website System Administrator will set up, maintain and optimize cloud-based servers hosting multiple Drupal website installations, as well as other open source tools, including a few one-off html websites. The individual should have proven experience working with server level Drupal administration and optimization. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of LAMP-stack technologies as well as technologies that make Drupal sites perform well.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Set up technical server infrastructure, providing technical assistance to development teams, monitoring site performance, and troubleshooting issues when they arise.
- Work with Director of Web Services to set up a development server environment and a live server environment with a process for testing and deploying changes to live site.
- Take an active role in designing, implementing and maintaining a scalable and robust enterprise server environment.
- Administer Apache web server and MySQL Server
- Work on System Security and IPTable configuration
- Linux system updates and software installation (yum, apt-get, etc.)
- Deploy Drupal System updates.
- Optimize servers for high traffic, security, and other Drupal related system issues.
- Evaluate and propose new or improved system architecture.
- Document system configuration, processes, and procedures.
- Share responsibility with team members for rotating on-call duties.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Computer Science related Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years web server administration experience
- Strong communication skills
- Familiarity with LAMP stack technologies, experience supporting Drupal preferred
- Knowledge of Amazon Web Services, RackSpace, Linode, and/or similar cloud hosted environments desired.
- Strong DNS management and automation background
- Strong scripting (bash, php, perl) skills
- Good understanding of TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting
- Clear communication and documentation of projects and procedures
- Strong problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage timelines, dependencies, deliverables, milestones and resource allocation and management in projects.
- Broad base of technical knowledge in emerging technology trends and issues, knowledge of technology issues in the museum or educational space preferred.
- Collaborative skills to work effectively with team members
- Experience advising and communicating with non-technical staff and guiding technical decisions.
- Desire to work in non-profit / museum environment.
