The Website Developer is a dynamic, business-minded, proactive individual with strong technical and communications skills.  The Developer will work alongside experienced museum technology and content professionals to build and support web, kiosk, mobile and interactive projects that improve public access to the rich content in museums.

The Balboa Park Online Collaborative (BPOC) is a nonprofit organization that strives to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration among nonprofit organizations through technology.  BPOC provides thought leadership and technical services to more than 27 museums and cultural organizations with a focus on providing cost-effective innovative solutions, delivering exceptional customer service, and creating a reliable infrastructure.  Our clients range from organizations of a staff of one to organizations with over 100 staff and volunteers.

The Website Developer will join our fast-paced, deadline-oriented interactive team servicing a wide range of clients. The ideal candidate will be a team player and willing to assist across all areas of interactive development. This requires a positive attitude, and commitment to continual learning and exploration of new technologies and best practices.

 Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support and add features to existing Drupal 6 & 7 websites.
  • Build Drupal 7 sites for non-profit clients.
  • Responsible for the quality of site deliverables in terms of technical design, implementation, testing and adherence to standards.
  • Technical lead on project teams consisting of BPOC staff and client stakeholders.
  • Clearly articulate scope of deliverables to team, including time-frame and level of difficulty.
  • Understand client’s business processes and translate business requirements into Drupal-based technology solutions.
  • Respond to client requests for site updates and troubleshoot site problems.
  • Train site users on Drupal best practices and use of CMS.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients
  • Work in a cloud-based Linux server environment hosted on Linode and Amazon Web Services.
  • Work closely with colleagues to meet team goals and improve processes and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • Experience building successful enterprise level websites on the Drupal CMS platform with skills using MySQL, PHP, jQuery, JSON and CSS.
  • Experience with HTML/CSS and comfortable with layout/UI/UX related development. Experience with responsive design desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills including troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated skills in discovery, specification development, information architecture and design.
  • Experience with SEO, registration systems, social media tools, content syndication and e-commerce.
  • Experience using code repositories such as Github and Subversion.
  • Experience with Mobile and HTML5 desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under deadline and communicate changes in project scope and complexity.
  • B.A. or B.S. in a technical, business, or communications related field, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage timelines, dependencies, deliverables, milestones and resource allocation and management in projects.
    • Broad base of technical knowledge in emerging technology trends and issues, knowledge of technology issues in the museum or educational space preferred.
    • Collaborative skills to work effectively with team members
    • Experience advising and communicating with non-technical staff and guiding technical decisions.
    • Desire to work in non-profit / museum environment.
