Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Media Officer, to be based in London on a fixed term contract on a salary pro rata of £33k until March 2014. Please be advised this is a fixed term contract.

The main purpose of this role will be supporting the media relations manager in implementing the external communications strategy of clients through contact with media to protect, maintain and enhance the reputations of previous clients.

This role is instrument in supporting our client's communications strategy and media advocacy.

The successful candidate will hold experience as a media professional who can hit the ground running. You will be experienced in working in a fast pace environment and you will have the confidence for turning complex policies into clear and authoritative media commentary. As a successful media operator you will bring great energy and sound judgement to the role

Main Duties

  • Support the media and public relations plans and strategy as set out by the Media Relations Manager/Director of Policy and External Affairs to promote Consumer Futures projects, events and developments across the national, regional and specialist media.
  • Identify newsworthy projects and effective ways to communicate the organisation's work to the media. Maintain all Press Office systems and services and ensure timely monthly reporting.
  • Responsible for producing materials on specific topics including press releases, media responses, articles, letters and briefings.
  • Provide media briefings to the Consumer Futures Chair and CEO as well as other staff regarding media interviews to ensure the organisations image is presented professionally.
  • Provide expert media advice
  • Research and compile information, as required, to inform or supplement existing policy work.
  • Provide speech writing support to CEO, Chair and others as needed.
  • Develop and sustain wide-ranging contacts within media
  • Assist with Reporting and Evaluation of media activity

Essential skills

  • Educated to degree level, equivalent relevant qualification or experience
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a media friendly format
  • Excellent analytical skills and sound professional judgment
  • Strong experience in media, or public relations work in a high profile organisation
  • Track record of developing and implementing successful media/public relations campaigns
  • Experience in drafting external relations material
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of UK media
  • Project management experience (desirable).
