Senior Oracle Database Administrator
Positon: 3 months contract (could be extended up to maximum 24 months)
Hours per week: 40
Location: Utrecht, Netherlands
Rate: EUR 47-50 per week

You will be part of the 12-strong Database Team within the Data Centre Technical Services Group.
Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical support across a multi-platform infrastructure (Sun Solaris and Red Hat Linux).
The total expected hiring period is three months but could be extended for up to a maximum of 24 months.
Specific responsibilities include:
- providing day-to-day support for the production and development systems and
activities in a structured manner
- providing production support
- providing project support
- monitoring capacity, integrity and performance of production systems- installing new database Servers for both the Linux and Unix environments,
- understanding the performance and resilience characteristics of the key
- hardware/software components and ability to follow standard procedures
- implementing a suitable backup strategy to support an application
- carrying out performance and tuning at database server level, demonstrating an
understanding of application level issues
- maintaining monitoring systems to provide 24x7 cover
- modifying and maintaining existing scripts to handle minor changes in
infrastructure
- reproducing and simplifying problems for resolution by Oracle technical support,
also working with Oracle Metalink to develop workarounds for problems
- understanding the impacts/implications of undertaking 'unsafe' operations, and
minimising their risk
Requirements:
- five years' Oracle DBA experience (ideally Oracle Certified) within a multi-platform (UNIX and Linux) environment and Oracle RAC on Linux.
- strong track record in writing and installing scripts for database administration tasks, such as backups and capacity monitoring
- extensive Oracle product knowledge (at least Oracle 10g and 11g including RAC)
- support Oracle on Unix and Linux platforms
- use of Oracle Enterprise Manager in combination with Diagnostics and Tuning
pack
- building severs and databases to global standards
- writing technical documents
- Unix Shell Scripting
- extensive performance & tuning experience
- performing Hot/Cold backups
- understanding of fault-finding Oracle Client connectivity
- understanding of database security
- understanding of network, multi-user access and locking issues
- understanding of database logging and recovery and how to recover from the various failure scenarios
