This position will support a short-term (4 - 6 months) data conversion and data migration effort from an existing scientific database in a Legacy schema, to a new enterprise-wide environmental and scientific data repository. This repository will serve as a comprehensive data warehouse for various scientific and water quality activities and will be utilized by web-based decision support tools for Chesapeake Bay Program Office scientists. The successful candidate will also serve as the lead Subject Matter Expert for this comprehensive data conversion effort.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include:

  • Plan, design, develop, populate and maintain databases.
  • Work with the analysts and developers to identify and resolve issues and special performance considerations.
  • Perform data modelling and optimization, develop and implement schemas, and interpret and write SQL queries.
  • Work with business analysts to design and implement schemas for water quality monitoring data.
  • Work closely with business analysts to develop data conversion solutions for existing water quality data.
  • Establish and adhere to standards and best practices for database design.

Education and Experience:  

The most qualified candidates will possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related discipline with at least 6 years of directly applicable DBA experience.  

Candidates should also possess the following experience:

  • Extensive experience working with Microsoft MS SQL, T-SQL and SSIS.
  • Extensive experience designing database schemas.
  • Experience in ETL architectures, designs and development activities.
  • Good knowledge in data warehouse concepts and data models.
  • Experience with RedGate tool suit a plus.
  • Experience working with scientific databases.
  • Working knowledge of ASP.NET Architecture
  • Experience performing database administration, requirements analysis and supporting application development
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
